As the Year 9 boys disembarked from the Eurostar with England far behind them, they knew the trip was going to be something to remember. They reached the Collège de l’Alma, the French Exchange school, met their exchange partners and instantly settled in with their new friends.
After a weekend where students went away with their new found friend or simply stayed in Paris to bask in its glory, everyone was content and optimistic about the rest of the trip. These hopes were not misplaced. Days were spent visiting the attractions of Paris, from the Arc de Triomphe to the Eiffel Tower; the days seemed to continually reach new heights of enjoyment. After the tourism was ticked off the list for the day, each student spent the night with their exchange partner. Whether it was playing Fifa together or just conversing with each other, the boys’ French skills were put to good use and seemed to improve considerably, each boy becoming more confident as the trip progressed.
On the penultimate day of the trip, the afternoon was spent with the boys’ exchange partners. This was a highlight of the trip as everyone could really get to know one another and it was refreshing to be able to speak freely.
This trip is highly recommended for all boys studying French. The teachers were extremely helpful, whether for language tips or guided tours. All in all the Paris exchange was an experience not to be forgotten.
