We were delighted to welcome Caroline O’Neal, an American rocket scientist at NASA, alongside engineers Michael Baddeley and Doug Inman, whose droids have featured in films including\u202fStar Wars to speak to our students from Years 7 to 11.<\/p>\n
Caroline spoke about what it means to be a rocket scientist, how she found her way into the role she holds today, and her work on the Artemis launches. Her message encouraged students to dream big, embrace challenges, and learn from failure. She reminded them that the opportunities available to them are boundless and that determination and curiosity can lead to extraordinary careers.<\/p>\n
Following Caroline’s presentation, GCSE and A Level Computer Science students across the Habs Girls and Habs Boys gathered to hear from all three guests. They shared how their passion for droid building led to careers developing robotic puppetry and innovative technology used in the film industry. Students learned about their early projects, the growth of the droid-building community, and the exciting opportunities available for those interested in becoming involved. The speakers also offered practical advice on where to learn more, develop skills, and connect with like-minded enthusiasts.<\/p>\n
The talks left students feeling inspired and excited to begin their own STEM journeys, whether in engineering, computer science, space exploration, or beyond.<\/p>\n
