What does a pupil’s schooling need to offer, in order to support them to be successful in the future?

At the ages of 7 to 11, the job market might seem a long way off, but the skills required in industry are changing fast. The World Economic Forum’s Future Jobs 2025 predicts that around 39% of skills required by employers will change by 2030.

Schools like Habs will need to prepare its pupils for this – the jobs that exist now will not be the same as the jobs our pupils will be going into. AI is changing what it means to work, and early signs are already visible of what this means for those entering the job market.

How are we preparing pupil’s for this change?

To prepare our pupils for this future, we are developing our “Habits” framework, which outlines human skills and dispositions that are going to be the differentiators for future success. Working with our community to create these Habits, we are aligning both to our values and to what bodies such as the OECD, WEF and UNESCO identify as skills for the future.

These Habits are not only about future success at work, though. At Habs, we empower young people to make a profound impact in the world – through their community and in their wider lives. Our Habits framework is about future success, and it is also about flourishing more broadly as a human being.

To give our pupils the best possible opportunities to develop these Habits, we are rethinking our curriculum. From September, pupils in Years 3 to 6 will study a Habits Curriculum alongside their main studies.

We will be sharing further detail about what this looks like in the coming months.
