We are always looking for ways to engage our students in meaningful, hands-on projects that benefit both our community and the wider environment. In July 2024, a group of students, accompanied by Ms Lavelle and Mr Yarlett, attended the Sustainability Conference at Habs Monmouth. Inspired by the impressive wildflower planting projects we saw, we were eager to bring a similar initiative to life.

As the new academic year began, Ms Lavelle took the lead in researching the most suitable wildflower mix for our site. She collaborated closely with our gardening team to select the ideal location and sought guidance from local bee experts to ensure that our efforts would have the greatest possible impact on pollinators.

The Wildflower Walkway is a project that has brought our community together to create a flourishing habitat for bees and other wildlife. Over the spring and summer months, this beautiful space will not only provide essential support for pollinators but will also offer a colourful display for our whole school community to enjoy.

The wildflower walkway will be left to die back, then mown once per year to allow for seeds to fall from the dried out seedheads and lie dormant until flowering again in the spring. This process respects the natural cycle of the seasons and should ensure the project’s success for many years to come.
