Many of our alumnae, their families and our former staff express their affection for Habs and support for our work by making a financial donation.

One of the ways you can do this is by making a bequest in your will to The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Elstree Schools’ Foundation. We are very grateful to those who leave us legacies, which can be transformative.

How to make a bequest

A legacy means you do not have to make a payment now. You will have the peace of mind of knowing you will be supporting us, but not until later.

A bequest can be for as much or as little as you want, and is simply a brief instruction for your executor in your will. You can ask your solicitor to insert their preferred wording or, if you are writing your own will, you might want to use this wording:

“I leave to The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Elstree Schools’ Foundation, Butterfly Lane, Elstree, Hertfordshire, WD6 3AF the sum of £[insert amount], free of duty, to be spent in support of the general purposes of the foundation [or please insert your specific request]. I am happy for my executors to receive a receipt in that amount from an authorised officer of the foundation as evidence of the discharge of their duties.”

There are various types of legacies. Please see our legacy booklet for more details and how to start the process. If you are in the USA, you can also leave a tax-efficient bequest through the BSUF. Find out more about donating from the USA.

How your bequest will be used

We recognise that donors will not be here to see the benefits of their bequest, so we are very careful to spend such gifts responsibly:

  • Your gift could enable bright children to receive an exceptional education that their parents could not otherwise afford
  • You could help us invest in facilities and services which will continue to bring Habs Elstree Schools to the very forefront of British education
  • You could help to fund the remarkable range of co-curricular activities that make Habs such an all-round education
  • You could fund prizes and other opportunities to reward achievement and effort
  • You can leave a legacy to invest wherever the need is greatest, or specify a particular purpose – such as student bursaries, the performing arts or sport

Already made your bequest?

If you have already included Habs in your will, we would be very grateful if you would consider letting us know about your legacy plans. Please contact the Director of the Habs Foundation, Roger Llewellyn (OH 1983) by calling 0208 266 1964 or emailing foundation@habsgirls.org.uk

Those who have informed us of their intention to leave a legacy to the school are recognised through membership of the Dr TW Taylor Society. Tom Taylor was Headmaster here from 1946 to 1973. It was Dr Taylor’s far-sightedness and imagination that led us to relocate to our current site in 1961, laying the groundwork for us to become one of the leading independent schools in the country.

We are happy to help

If you would like to consider leaving us a legacy, please contact Roger Llewellyn, the Director of the HABS Foundation, for a no-obligation chat. You can call him on 0208 266 1964 or email foundation@habsgirls.org.uk.

Roger will discuss your thoughts with you, explain what is involved, and explain what a difference your donation would make.

Alternatively, our legacy booklet contains an initial response form.
