The past few days at Habs have been filled with energy, curiosity and inspiration, as students across multiple year groups took part in a wide range of enrichment and academic activities designed to challenge, motivate and prepare them for the future.

Rhythms, Revolutions and Collaboration

Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 enjoyed a series of specialist-led sessions that brought learning to life in exciting and varied ways.

The Music department was alive with the sound of Samba as Mr Ormston led a high-energy percussion workshop. Students worked collaboratively to break down complex rhythms, culminating in a powerful ensemble performance that demonstrated both musical skill and teamwork.

Meanwhile, Year 8 students explored the French Revolution in a focused session with Mr Lock, Executive Principal, gaining valuable context and insight ahead of their end-of-year assessments. The session encouraged critical thinking and deeper historical understanding, helping students to connect key ideas and themes.

History Brought to Life
History lessons continued to inspire, with senior leaders taking to the classroom to share their expertise.
Dr Bagworth-Mann, Headmistress, worked with Year 7 students to explore how William I conquered England, guiding them through source analysis and encouraging them to think like historians.
Later in the day, Mr Lock taught Year 9, leading a session on hyperinflation through the years, further strengthening students’ analytical and evaluative skills.

These sessions highlight the importance placed on leadership engagement at Habs, with both the Headmistress and Executive Principal regularly connecting with students, sharing their passion for their subjects, and enriching classroom learning through their experience and insight.

Looking Ahead: Enrichment Continues

The enrichment programme continues to build momentum, with upcoming sessions including further History learning for Year 7, a bespoke session for Year 9, and Games activities for students across Years 7–10.

Preparing for the Future: Destinations Day

Alongside academic enrichment, Year 12 students from both the Boys and Girls Schools came together for Destinations Day, a dedicated programme focused on future pathways.

The day provided students with invaluable guidance on university applications and beyond. Sessions included a UCAS briefing, the art of crafting a strong personal statement, and opportunities to begin drafting their own applications. Students also analysed successful examples to better understand what makes an application stand out.

We were delighted to welcome guest speakers, including a Producer and Creative Director and an Old Haberdasherian actor, who shared their experiences and insights with students interested in creative industries.

Further sessions explored public speaking skills, equipping students with the confidence and techniques needed for interviews, presentations and future careers. For those considering international study, dedicated guidance on US applications and the Common App offered tailored support.

The day concluded with a university panel featuring representatives from the University of Birmingham and King’s College London, who provided expert advice and answered students’ questions about higher education.

Our thanks go to Dr Silverman and the Futures team for delivering such a valuable and inspiring experience.
