Last month, Aaliyah (8 A) had the opportunity to accompany her younger brother, Shakeel, to the Houses of Parliament to speak to MP Adam Dance about dyslexia in education.
Shakeel is the host of YouTube channel Tiny Titan Talks and was there to interview Adam, who is a passionate advocate for inclusion and children with dyslexia. Adam shared impactful stories about overcoming obstacles related to his own dyslexia, and his journey throughout school and into the political sphere.
After the interview, Aaliyah and her brother were taken on a tour to explore parliament. She represented Habs phenomenally, providing calm reassurance and encouragement throughout the visit. Her quiet leadership and maturity were evident throughout the day.
On reflection of her visit, Aaliyah said, “It was so inspiring to meet Adam Dance and the tour of Parliament that we received was truly spectacular, a day to forever treasure.”
The interview will highlight key conversations around inclusion, courage and how pastoral care within schools can set students up for a successful future. At Habs, such conversations empower our young students to develop their own self-esteem, resilience and empathy so they can flourish in all aspects of school life and the world beyond.
We are incredibly proud of Aaliyah for representing our school with such poise and empathy. Experiences like these not only broaden horizons but also remind our students that their voices and their support of others truly matter.
