We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Hazel Bagworth-Mann as the next Head of Habs Girls’ School.
Chair of Governors, Mr Simon Cartmell OBE, said: “Throughout a rigorous selection process and in an outstanding field, Hazel stood out. She is a perfect match for the Girls’ School Head role; she brings an ambitious and holistic vision of education as well as unparalleled operational experience from North London Collegiate School. Hazel has proven pastoral leadership and her ability to communicate meaningfully with staff, students and parents at a time of change will be invaluable as she leads the way forward at Habs Girls.”
Dr Hazel Bagworth-Mann has both a First Class degree and a PhD in History, with a keen interest in the development of female education, and she began her career at the Historical Manuscripts Commission, before moving to The National Archives. She has undertaken many senior roles at NLCS, including Head of House, Assistant Head of Upper School, Head of Middle School, Deputy Head Pastoral and most recently Interim Headmistress, all the while continuing to teach History across the Senior School.
Dr Hazel Bagworth-Mann believes that the key to providing an exceptional education is expert teaching by staff who have a passion for their subject and can instil a love of learning with their students. Strong individualised pastoral care is also fundamental, and underpins academic excellence.
Dr Hazel Bagworth-Mann will report to Mr Gus Lock (incoming Executive Principal) and will start at Elstree on Friday 1 September 2023.
From September, the Executive Principal will drive the strategic leadership of both schools and project the institution on various national fora, allowing the Girls’ School Head to focus upon addressing the operational priorities of the Girls’ School, ensuring the culture and strategy to which we are committed across the Elstree Schools are implemented effectively and to the advantage of all students.
We feel very fortunate to be welcoming Hazel onboard and look forward to introducing her to our wider community soon.
