On Monday 13 June teams of A Level chemistry pupils from the Girls’ and Boys’ School have joined together to take part in the RSC Schools’ Analyst Competition. This year the challenges were centred around creating the perfect plate of sustainable Fish and Chips. This involved looking for amino acids in flour, finding the sweetest potatoes, making sure the batter was crunchy and that the vinegar was just acidic enough. Pupils used titration, gravimetric and chromatography skills to solve a series of problems whilst working as accurately as possible.
Many thanks to the Boys’ School for hosting what was a thorough and engrossing test of their practical abilities.
