Our Year 8 and Year 9 students received a presentation from Natasha Devon MBE, a national voice and campaigner on mental health. Natasha is a writer, campaigner and broadcaster, who has worked with organisations such as Body Gossip and Mental Health First Aid England.
The session focused on evidence-based, practical guidance proven to support student wellbeing, reduce stress levels and improve learning outcomes. It was organised in direct response to student questions about managing the end-of-year exam process, ensuring the content was both relevant and student-led.
Key themes included the importance of achievement and belonging in maintaining positive mental health, the close relationship between perfectionism and procrastination, and practical strategies such as the five-minute rule to help students overcome stress when starting revision or homework. Natasha also signposted resources to help prevent and better cope with panic attacks, including additional support available through No Panic.
This session forms part of our wider PSHE programme, which is designed to support students’ personal development, wellbeing, resilience and emotional literacy. External speakers such as Natasha enhance this provision by bringing expert, real-world perspectives that complement our curriculum.
