145 of the finest Habs boys and staff descended upon Croxley Common Moor for Field Day to work alongside five members of The Friends of Croxley Common Moor to clear encroaching Birch, Hawthorn, Broom, Blackthorn, Oak and Bramble from the site. In just one day, our boys and staff have cleared material that would otherwise have taken the Friends over two years to complete (The Friends work one Sunday every month throughout a seven-month period, September through March, outside the nesting season).
Croxley Common Moor is unique to Hertfordshire in terms of its flora and fauna – there are some species living here that are found nowhere else in the county.
Fabian Hiscock, one of the Friends of Croxley Common Moor, commented on how impressed he was with our Habs boys – they worked hard for five hours, lopping, cutting, sawing and dragging tonnes of material to the bonfire site. What marked our lads out was the fact that they did all of this with such good humour. A superb day’s work, boys!
Mr Hardman was extremely grateful to the boys for their efforts, tremendous work and high spirits. Furthermore, Mr Hardman and the boys wish to extend our grateful thanks to the 18 staff who led by their own excellent example for the entire day….Mr Bartlett, Dr Chapman, Mr Cooper (PE), Miss Drake, Mr Eyre-Maunsell, Mrs Ghioc, Mr Griffin, Mr Handley, Mrs Hanlon, Mr Jewison, Mr Kerry, Dr Krishnadasan, Mr Lee, Mr Lynch, Mr Raatz, Mr Talboys and Mr Ward (Biology).
