On Friday 10 June our Year 7 pupils enjoyed a fantastic day of independent learning and problem solving. Spanning a variety of subject areas, students were required to think and create at a very high level across economics, philosophy, sciences, engineering, design and computing. Our pupils rose to the challenge admirably and our visitors from Intel and Microsoft were so impressed by the intellect, team work and humility demonstrated by our students.

The essence of the day was to showcase the variety of approaches to problem solving that our students can develop.  Students were shown that their education at Haberdashers will allow them not only to understand the world but to change the world and in this they were inspirited by the words of many people from the CEO of Microsoft to Martin Luther King. They were asked what problem they wanted to solve, what can Google not answer, how might linking an everyday object to the internet change our world and how do our skills of creativity, collaboration and critical thinking play a part in delivering solutions to new challenges.

We will be building on the development of these skills in the coming year; in the mean time we do hope that our pupils enjoyed the day and will use the skills they learnt across all of their academic subjects.
