Habs Boys has approximately 160-170 boys entering Year 7 each year. Around 60 boys will automatically move up from our Prep School and a small number of boys, who have the required academic standard from our Group Schools (Lochinver House and St Martin’s), will have been awarded a Preferential Pathway automatic place.

This leaves the majority of places available to external boys who come from a wide range of other state primary and independent schools.
We have approximately 20-30 places for boys who join in Year 9 via the 11+ deferred route.

If your child is unsuccessful at 11+, you may apply for our 13+ entry. Please note our 13+ entry point differs to other schools that you may be applying to. Your child will be assessed for our 13+ entry when they are in Year 8.

Our 11+ and 11+ deferred registration is now open. We recommend parents to register their child in Year 5.

11+ or 11+ deferred

You may apply for either 11+ (joining in Year 7) or 11+ deferred (joining in Year 9).

If your son attends a school that finishes in Year 6 you need to apply for our 11+ entry. If your son attends a Prep School that finishes at Year 8 we strongly recommend you apply for our 11+ deferred entry or our separate 13+.

Assessments

We have adapted our 11+ QUEST assessment. It will be PAPER-BASED and consist of:

  • Maths and Non-verbal Reasoning (45 minutes)
  • English and Verbal Reasoning (40 minutes)
  • Creative Comprehension (20 minutes)
  • Creative Writing (20 minutes)

The Maths and English questions are based on Key Stage 2 of the National Curriculum. These will be multiple-choice.

Interview

Around half of the boys who sit our assessment will be invited back for a 1-hour interview (30 minutes covering Maths, English and general, and a 30 minute group task)
