A special evening with Old Haberdashers Andy and Charlie Rubin of the Pentland Group, a Global Sportswear Giant

Tuesday 28 January 2025 from 6.30-9pm on the Habs Elstree campus
Free event; please register below

Come hear Andy Rubin (OH 1983) and his son Charlie (OH 2012) discuss their family’s remarkable journey from Eastern European émigrés to founders of the Pentland Group, which owns such brands as Speedo, Berghaus and Canterbury of New Zealand and is the majority shareholder of JD Sports.

Though today Pentland has annual sales of US$8 billion and employs 76,000 people, it is still very much a family business privately held by the Rubin family.

Executive Principal Gus Lock (OH 1994) will host an on-stage discussion with Andy and Charlie on Tuesday 28 January, as the latest in our occasional Habs in Conversation series. They will explore topics including:

  • What should the schools teach students today to ensure a successful ‘real world’ career tomorrow?
  • What are the challenges of running a global company?
  • What advice do they have for others who are building a family business?
  • And how do you make your mark when your dad is also your boss?

The Rubins are a multi-generational Habs family, with Old Haberdashers on both sides of the family. (Andy met his future wife, Danielle Steiner, OH 1983, on the school coach.)

All parents and Old Haberdashers from Habs Girls and Habs Boys are warmly invited. This is a free event, but advance registration is required.

The event will begin with a drinks reception at 6:30pm, followed by the on-stage Habs in Conversation discussion. There will be Q&A with the audience at the end of the evening.

Please join us for what promises to be a very special evening. Spaces are limited, so reserve your seat now.
