The GCSE Class of 2014 rose to the challenge set by last year’s cohort and has achieved an outstanding set of results. This is even more impressive considering the publicised national ‘toughening’ of examinations. To every pupil and parent we send our warmest congratulations.
“With 70% of all grades being A*, it is clear to see that truly outstanding pupils are supported and challenged to achieve their full potential” commented Headmaster, Peter Hamilton. “I have been liaising closely with all of the Examination Boards throughout this year and am pleased with their drive to make examinations more rigorous and ultimately more educationally rewarding. At Haberdashers’ we have always sought to stretch even the brightest minds in all manner of areas and develop all round individuals. We maintain our strong ethos of cultural, sporting and academic enrichment whilst still achieving some of the best results in the country. These boys are equally talented in all manner of areas and I am enormously pleased to congratulate them, their parents, and my superb staff”.
The excellent results in Mathematics (82.4% A*, 99.4% A*-A), Sciences (Biology 79% A*, Chemistry 79% A*, Physics 86% A*) and Modern Languages (French 85% A*, German 71% A*, Italian 92% A*, Spanish 81% A*) are in stark contrast to the national academic landscape.
It is an incredible feat that 112 (63%) achieved straight A*/A grades in their examinations, with 39 boys achieving an incredible 10 A* grades. Every one of the 177 boys must be congratulated for their hard work and well deserved success.
