On Wednesday 20th May the Under 16 Athletics squad travelled to the Garston Athletics Track in Watford to compete in the first round of the English Schools Track and Field Cup, to compete against all the top Athletics schools in Hertfordshire. The format of this event requires every athlete to compete in one track and one field event – and individuals are awarded points on their performances.
There were some really outstanding performances:
Those Athletes scoring over 25 points in one event or 45 points in two events
combined achieved the HABS Elite Athlete status, they were:
Dom Evans – Discus with 36.57 – scoring 27 points
Michael Miller – Javelin with 50.10 – scoring 27 points
Matthew Copley – 300m in 38.9 – scoring 26 points
Ade Tokuta – 80m Hurdles in 11.7 – scoring 26 points
Those athletes with a combined score of over 45 points were
Adam Shiret – 800m and High Jump (2.03 and 1.74) scoring 48 points
Dylan Kaposi – 100m and Pole Vault ( 11.9 and 3.10m) scoring 46 points
As a result, all the above athletes win the coveted HABS Elite Athlete Training Top!
HABS scored 550 points and are now ranked first in the county and in the top three in England – Squad members now need to keep fit and injury-free before the next East of England regional round on Monday 8th June, where they will need to score a similar points tally to qualify for the National Finals.
