The Under 14 team suffered a disappointment just prior to the regional final of the ESAA Track and Field Cup with the loss of one of the team’s key athletes through injury resulting in a last minute reshuffle. Although their points score was actually higher than in the County round at the half way point sadly the loss had a big impact in the field and the team finally finished 7th, 8 points down on their previous score.
Nevertheless Habs had some fine individual performances with a win for Rohan Oyewole in the javelin, a joint 1st for Zamaan Dudhia in the Pole Vault, seconds for Jeevan Bhuller (200m) and Ben Bellman (300m) and 3rd places through Jacob Steinberg (shot) and Tolu Elesin (300m). 30 points more in the team total would have seen the Under 14’s join the Under 16’s in the National final.
The following day, Weds 17th June, Habs athletes set about the task of winning round 6 of the Herts league in order to secure the Area A league title and go forward to the Herts School Athletics League Final. The Under 14’s were dominant on the track winning all but one event and in the field they were either first or second to finish with 63 points out of a maximum 70. Rohan Oyewole maintained his unbeaten run in the Javelin and moved up a distance to win the 300m, Jeevan Bhullar won the 100m, Ben Bellman the 200m, Tolu Elesin the 800m and Yanarthan Sriskantharajah won the hurdles. They finished with a dominant run in the relay.
As we approach the last few weeks of term the athletics season reaches its most busy period with 6 of the Under 14 team due to represent Eastern England in the National Independent Schools Championships on the same day as a big school squad will be defending the district athletics title at Woodside. Sports day then follows before both the Under 14 and Under 16 teams prepare for the Herts League Final and the Under 16’s then go on to compete in the ESAA Track and Field Cup Final at Bedford.
