The Athletics season has gotten into full swing this week with the Senior athletes defending the U20 district tile successfully ahead of St Clement Danes and Aldenham and the Under 16 and Under 14 teams competing in their first Herts League fixture of the 2017 competition.
The Under 20 team had four district title winners, Michael Miller secured the Javelin, Animesh Misra the Shot Put, Louis Flinn the Pole Vault and Adam Shiret, with a fine run from the outside lane was a comfortable winner of the 400m. These performances were backed up with runners up placings by Ade Tokuta, Alistair Afeeva, Jamie Harper, Dylan Kaposi and Henry Rocha as well as the 4x 100m relay team. The team were overall winners by 15 points to kepp the trophy at Elstree for the 6th year in succession.
The Herts League meeting was an indication of early season form. For the Under 14 team, Jacob Haynes, Ben Hocking and Viren Dulabh were double event winners as the team won every event bar two on the programme and our dominance of the competition was evident in the 4 x100m relay at the conclusion of the meeting as Jacob Haynes anchored the team home with a winning margin of some 60 metres.
The Under 16 team were as dominant with some very encouraging performances particularly in the field. There is some real strength in depth across the team but performance on the field would go to Jacob Steinberg for his throw just short of 12 metres with the 5kg shot and on the track to be shared between Tolu Elesin (400m) and Freddie Shiret (800m) both securing 1st places, Tolu with a 53 secs 400m and Freddie winning the 800m with a 90m margin.
A most encouraging start to what we hope will be another fruitful season.
