The Pre-Preparatory School held their Book Week on the week commencing Monday 2 May 2016.
To begin the week, the Pre-Prep boys together with the staff all came dressed up as characters from their favourite stories. They enjoyed a costume parade in the playground followed by an assembly with Senior School librarian Susan Stanbury.
On Wednesday, Year 1 had an amazing day out at Bucks County Museum and The Roald Dahl Gallery.
In the morning, the boys had fun exploring toys from the Roman, Tudor and Victorian times in an interactive History workshop. During the afternoon, the boys were given an introduction to Roald Dahl’s life, how he wrote his stories and where he got his ideas from. The boys acted out the scene from Charlie and the Chocolate factory where poor Augustus Gloop gets stuck in the bubble tube, investigated underground treasures by crawling through Mr Fox’s tunnel and were even shrunk by Mr Wonka’s Chocolate Television Machine just like Mike Teevee.
On Thursday, the Year 2 boys were paired with Year 1 to enjoy reading together. Year 2 shared their favourite books with Year 1 and explained how to write a book review. All the boys were then guests of honour at a fabulous book themed lunch ‘A Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ hosted by Sharon and Toni.
Garry Parsons, an award winning illustrator of books for children, visited the Pre-Prep on Friday for the final day of book week. Garry presented a lively and entertaining assembly followed by a workshop with each class, in which he gave an inspiring insight into his work as an illustrator.
The boys certainly had fun during Book Week at the Pre-Prep and the School have lit the fires of inspiration and stoked the coals of passion for reading a really good book. A huge thank you to the children, parents and staff that have helped to make this week a very memorable one. We are already eagerly looking forward to next year’s Book Week celebrations.
