Congratulations to our GCSE pupils

The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School is delighted to announce excellent results at GCSE across all subjects. 

Mr Gus Lock, Headmaster, said: “I am extremely proud of this cohort. These young men have worked tremendously hard and have been resilient, strong and positive, particularly over the last few months when the campus has been closed during the national lockdown. They adapted exceptionally well to remote learning. I must thank the parents who have tirelessly supported their sons from home and our immensely dedicated staff for their expert, passionate teaching and guidance throughout.”  

During the lockdown period, the Year 11s were provided with outstanding opportunities to pursue their academic learning well beyond the GCSE syllabus through the School’s Bridge programme, enabling our students to be well and truly prepared to embrace the challenges of their A Level journey.  

“It is important to remember,” says Mr Lock, “that Habs pupils have been awarded these superb results alongside the huge array of character-building opportunities beyond the classroom in sport, music and drama as well as the many opportunities to serve local and global communities through charitable activities.” The School’s ethos is to develop skills needed by the global leaders and citizens of the future. 

Jack, who received ten 9s, said: “I am ecstatic about my results and today has been a huge relief for me knowing that the hard work throughout the year has been reflected in these results. The support from my teachers was brilliant throughout the academic year, but it was especially alleviating pastorally and academically during the difficult circumstances of the lockdown period, so I’d like to thank them for their help. Whilst remote learning was a different experience for all of us, the teachers really did make it comfortable to settle into a new style of school life.
 
The Bridge programme that began in the summer term was a great opportunity to get a taster of our subjects that we are going to study in the forthcoming year. It provided us with a deep insight into our A Level courses and gave us the freedom to explore our chosen subjects. 
 
With the vast range of co-curricular activities on offer, I relished the opportunities to represent the School in sport and music, such as in the hockey 1XI team and the Habs symphony orchestra, and I look forward to continuing doing so in the Sixth Form. I would just like to thank all the teachers for the excellent support that they have provided for us students, and I am grateful to them for creating a wonderful school learning environment regardless of whether we are in school or not.” 

Jatin, who was awarded eight 9s and two 8s, said: “I am absolutely thrilled with my GCSE results, and I am extremely pleased that my hard work over the past few years has been rewarded. It must be mentioned that the School’s support has been exceptional throughout the Middle School, and especially during lockdown, both academically and from a pastoral perspective. The transition to remote learning was smooth, and a large thanks must go to all teachers involved for their efforts in adapting to a virtual environment so well. 

I thoroughly enjoy participating in Model United Nations this year, both as a Chair and Delegate, in addition to representing the school on the cricket field. A more recent highlight has been the opportunity to read with the younger Habs Prep students weekly during lockdown, which was a great experience. Moving into the Sixth Form, I look especially forward to serving as the Chairman of the Hindu Assembly Committee and as the Director of Buddies. 

I would like to thank the Habs community: my teachers, my form tutor and the Head of Middle School, along with the pastoral team for all of their continued support and guidance over the past few years, and for making it possible for me to achieve these results. One special thanks to our Headmaster, Mr Lock, for keeping us constantly informed and motivated during lockdown!” 

Tom, who was awarded eight 9s and two 8s, said: “I am very happy with my results. The School was very supportive during lockdown and my form tutor was constantly in touch with me. I really enjoyed furthering my knowledge in my A Level subjects through the enrichment courses that the School offered, and I am looking forward to studying the subjects I enjoy the most, as well as the new challenges that await. I will be studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics at A Level. 

The Bridge programme was a great idea because it allowed students to get involved in activities which they would not normally do in school.  

I enjoyed playing sports during my GCSEs and have represented the School in football, hockey and cricket. I would like to thank my teachers and my form tutor for supporting me. I am very pleased that all the hard work I have put in over the past two years has paid off.” 

Mr Lock concluded: “Warmest congratulations to this year group, once again. They have endured and overcome obstacles during this unusual year. I look forward to welcoming them back in September to start their Sixth Form studies.”
