21 boys who make up the majority of the Year 6 rugby squad travelled to Dublin during the first week of half term. Staying at the Johnstown House Hotel in Meath they enjoyed 5 days of hard rugby training, two tour matches, one against De La Salle Palmeston RFC in Kilternan, Co Dublin and the other against Willow Park School, the junior school of Blackrock College in Co Dublin. In addition they had an afternoon at the Extreme Outdoor activity centre and a chance to visit Croke Park in Dublin and the city centre.
The tour matches were competitive, all the squad members having to become quickly accustomed to the aggressive form of Irish rugby particularly in the tackling and competing for the ball. The A team managed a win at De La Salle on the Tuesday evening, a match played under floodlights and the B team had a resounding win over Willow Park in the tour’s second round of fixtures. The boys were excited to have played on Irish soil and even more so when the highlights of their matches against De La Salle appeared on You Tube. A big thank you to Mr Dathan and Mr Thomas who accompanied Mr Lowe to Dublin for the week.
