There was so much interest in the Family History Afternoon that we moved to the Bourne Hall in order to accommodate all the parents, grandparents, siblings, Housemasters and Tutors who wanted to see the display of this year’s Year 7 Family History Projects.

A group of over a hundred people had tea on Monday 19th May and saw the superb work that boys from 7 Calverts, 7 Hendersons, 7 Joblings, 7 Meadows, 7 Russells and 7 Strouts had produced for their History teachers. Each boy interviewed a family member about an experience they had lived through and then wrote up the interview. It was wonderful to have many of the interviewees present with us in the Bourne Hall.

As in previous years, the projects were of a truly outstanding standard. The variety of the projects reflected the great multi-cultural diversity of the Haberdashers’ community. Among other themes explored were: Liverpool in the Second World War, the expulsion of Asians from Uganda, the Holocaust, the death of Princess Diana and the Romanian Revolution of 1989. A very pleasing feature this year was the breadth of imagination in the exhibition of the projects with the boys using their ICT and artistic skills to enhance the presentation of their research.

Mr Clark and Dr Courtney, the Head of History, briefly spoke to thank everyone who attended the tea, the boys for their diligence and the Year 7 History teachers for their expert guidance of their students. The History Department would like to record its profound gratitude to all the interviewees who gave of their time and related their memories with such generosity.
