Grades 1-9
The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School is celebrating another outstanding set of GCSE results right across the academic spectrum, particularly given the more stringent reformed marking scales 9 to 1 for many GCSE boards. Grades 8 and 9 both denote the A*, with grade 9 allowing for sharper differentiation at the very top end of academic achievement.
We are delighted therefore to announce that:
- 72% of all numerical grades awarded were Grade 9
- 83% of grades in Mathematics were awarded Grade 9
- Overall 97% of Habs pupils achieved a Grade 9 or 8 (A* equivalent) in Mathematics
- The diversity of talents was shown by 90% of Drama grades being awarded Grade 8 or 9 (A* equivalent)
- 89% of pupils achieved at least one Grade 9
All Results
We are celebrating unprecedented results in a number of subjects. This success reflects the School’s ethos to develop the skills needed by the Global leaders of the future. Habs pupils develop independence of learning, self-motivation, passion, confidence, motivation and an enquiring mind, among many other traits. These are nurtured both inside and outside the classroom and are further encouraged early on at Haberdashers’ through initiatives such as the Keith Dawson Independent Study Project in Year 9.
- 22% of pupils achieved straight A*s / Grades 8 and 9
- A further 49% of pupils achieved all A or A* / Grades 9-7

Our new Headmaster, Gus Lock, warmly congratulates our boys, staff and parents on their dedication and hard work:
“These outstanding GCSE results demonstrate, at the very highest level, the breadth and depth of skills which will enable these young men to thrive in an increasingly complex future. It is clear that the Habs curriculum is as strong, broad and successful now as it has ever been and I warmly congratulate all our pupils, as well as their teachers and families, for these outstanding results. I am very much looking forward to this excellent cohort joining our Sixth Form and working with them as they continue to flourish in their studies, whilst also developing the qualities they will need to lead in their future careers.”
From an unprecedented 84% gaining A*s in Chemistry, Physics and Biology, to excellent language skills demonstrated in 94% achieving A/A* in English Language and Literature; 83% achieving A*s in History and 80% of pupils taking Theology and Philosophy achieving Grade 9, this range of opportunity is also celebrated with 79% achieving A* in Classical Greek and 100% A* in Russian. Warm congratulations must also go to: our dramatists who achieved a tremendous 90% at A* in Drama; our sportsmen who have seen outstanding success both on and off the field with Sports Science achieving 85% A* and Music achieving 79% at Grades 8 and 9 (A*).
The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School is enormously proud of our rounded and balanced young men. It is important to remember that our pupils have achieved these superb results through tremendous dedication to their studies alongside their active involvement in our extensive co-curricular programme.
Congratulations to all!
