On Thursday 20th August, the School once again celebrated exceptional GCSE examination results. With 70% of all grades being an A* and 99.3% being A*-B, this is an excellent set of results.
Peter Hamilton, Headmaster, warmly congratulated every pupil who sat their exams this year. The hard work dedication and enjoyment for their learning is clearly evident in these results. 13 boys achieved 10 A* grades or more which is an incredibly feat. The quality of the teaching and overall education is also evident with the majority of the boys (53%) gaining straight A*/A grades; a total of 92 boys gained 10 A*/A grades. These results come on the back of a superb cricket season and excellent football, hockey and rugby results for these pupils.
Peter Hamilton remarked: “The boys have relished every challenge that the School has offered them, both academic and Co-curricular. They should be rightly proud of their achievements this year and I look forward to welcoming every one of them back in September”.
The School has continued to enjoy success with International GCSE qualifications. These qualifications have been selected due to being more academically rigorous, having a higher quality of marking, and being more intellectually stimulating. The results in these subjects have continued to be strong with boys achieving 83% A* grades in the IGCSE subjects. As the School looks to further broaden its horizons and to forge greater links with the international community, these examinations will continue to hold prominence. In addition, the School will continue to apply pressure on the Government to allow all schools in the UK to sit these examinations if they so wish.
The success of the Modern Languages department is of particular note this year. Not only are the number of boys studying a language increasing (during a time of national decline), but so is the level of attainment in these challenging subjects. These skills will prove valuable to the pupils as they enter into a highly competitive working environment. Together with outstanding results in the Sciences, Geography, History, Theology, and Mathematics; these are an exceptionally good set of results. Congratulations to the boys, who should be incredibly proud of their superb achievements.
