The School was thrilled to welcome parent Mrs Lefi Anacreonte to speak during the Junior School assembly this morning. Mrs Anacreonte is a Criminal Defence Barrister with over 28 years’ experience who is currently practicing for Furnival Chambers. Mrs Siatta (her practising name) has been a member of Gray’s Inn and South Eastern Circuit for barristers during her distinguished career where she has defended those accused of murder, fraud, robberies and financial crimes. Other areas of expertise include serious drug trials and cases of firearms with intent to endanger life.
Mrs Anacreonte’s last case appeared at the Old Bailey in a four week trial, in a much publicised case involving the Chief Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police for Possession and Distribution of indecent images. During the assembly she spoke about the role of the Barrister and her passion for the law.
Mrs Anacreonte then remained after the assembly to take a Year 7 values lesson with 7J and to answer questions. There she spoke to the class about those values that she felt were key: truth and integrity. Here were some of the questions posed by 7J:
- Why do some people go to jail before the trial?
- What is the role of the Supreme Court?
- Can you tell us some of the famous cases you have worked on?
