The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School is delighted to welcome our new Headmaster Mr Gus Lock (OH 1994) to Elstree.

During his time as a pupil at Haberdashers’, Gus flourished in all aspects of school life. He thoroughly loved his time at Habs and enjoyed the all-round ethos of the School, including the academic challenge as well as countless activities outside of the classroom.

Gus studied History, Latin and French at A Level, and was House Captain of Strouts. A keen sportsman, Gus captained the rugby team and opened the batting for the 1st XI cricket team. He also achieved Grade 8 alto saxophone and particularly enjoyed his involvement in the School’s CCF.

When leaving the School, Gus knew then that he wanted to become a teacher. Gus said: “Habs made me want to teach. It fuelled enjoyment of learning that, for me, is at the heart of the very best teaching.”

Gus left Habs and went on to study Ancient and Modern History at Exeter College, Oxford, where he holds an Oxford Half Blue in Men’s Lacrosse and PADI Speciality Wreck Diver qualification. Upon graduating, Gus completed a PGCE from Bristol University. More recently, he has served as Head Master of Warwick School for five years.

Gus moved on to our Elstree site with his wife, Ali, and their three children over the summer.  Our new Headmaster commented: “Habs is a fantastic place to live and to work. The warmth of the welcome has been tremendous, and we are delighted to be here. I am looking forward to building on the existing strengths of the School: the quality of teaching and learning, our superb pastoral care and the breadth of educational offering. We want to continue helping young men develop into confident, compassionate and responsible leaders, who will play a positive part in the world.”

The Haberdashers’ Community warmly welcomes Gus and his family to the School and we wish them every success and happiness.
