Hamish Hudson (L6M2) has been invited to trial for the GB U19 England Talent Squad, giving him a chance to compete in the European Games next year.
Four years ago Hamish attended a Water Polo selection weekend at the international pool in Cardiff with over 120 water polo players from across the UK. From that initial weekend the squad was whittled away eventually resulting in 13 players being selected to represent Great Britain U17’s at the qualifying round the inaugural European Games in Malta earlier this year.
Hamish was one of the squad of 13 selected to play against teams from Germany, Malta, Switzerland & Latvia. The GB team were very fortunate to be coached by the ex-GB Olympic captain Craig Figes. Despite their valiant efforts the GB boys lost their first match to a very strong German team but went on to win their matches against Switzerland & Latvia. The ability to reach the finals in Baku came down to the last match against the host nation played at dusk on a cool March evening. The National Anthems were played and the team played with immense pride and skill and lost out by only one goal. At the end of five days they had played four intense international matches with two played on one day, and were understandably both physically & emotionally drained.
Due to his level of performance in this tournament he was brought to the attention of the U19 coaching team and we wish him all the best in his efforts to be selected.
