Jamie and Henry recorded the first and second fastest year 9 laps in the annual Goater Relay held in Aldenham Country park on the 21st January.
Habs organise the event that draws teams from as far and wide as Gloucester and Loughborough. With 30 teams competing as relay teams of six over the flat 2.7km course each leg was being completed in around 10 minutes.
The teams comprise of a runner from each year group from year 7 up and both Habs teams started well with Henry Rocha coming home second on the first leg and Sam Fenn in 3rd. Henry’s run of 9m.21 secs was the second fastest of the day by a year 9 runner, Sam recording a 9m.30sec effort which was around the 20th fastest lap by a senior runner. There followed some strong runs by Daniel Greenstein, Adam Shiret and Jamie Harper( on his way to recording the 9m.12 secs fastest lap by a year 9 athlete) but both Habs teams had slipped back after leg 1, the A team finally finishing 12th and the B team 18th.
Jamie and Henry both Shaftesbury club runners are amongst a small group of Habs representatives who this weekend compete in the County schools X Country championships in a bid to secure a place on the Hertfordshire team ahead of the National Championships in March.
