In the Under 14 competition in the Herts League at Woodside stadium, Garston, on Tuesday 28th April, a haul of 63 points puts Habs in a strong position after the first round meets.

There were some very good performances, particularly on the track where Habs won every event.

Performances of the night go to : Jeevan Bhullar a double winner in the 200m and in the Shot; Ben Bellman with a fine win in the 300m in 41.7, a new school record; Adam O’Reilly and Dan Greenstein who both ran solo efforts to win the 800m and 1500m respectively.

The pick of the non-scoring performances came from Stefan Bontas in the Long Jump with an effort of 4.87 metres.

The results are encouraging in preparation for the first round of the ESAA Track and Field Cup which takes place on Wednesday 20th May.

At the same meet, the Under 16 athletics squad began their defence of the 2015 County League title with an outstanding win, against some mediocre opposition in the first round of the Herts Athletics League meeting held at the Watford Track. For the first time in 20 years the Habs Under 16 Athletes won every event!

The winners were as follows:

Ade Tokuta – 100m Hurdles –  14.8 secs
Fayo Alabi – 100m – 12.0 secs
Ben Zombory-Moldovan – 200m – 24.8 secs
Dom Evans – 400m – 55.5 secs
Adam Shiret – 800m – 2 mins 29 secs
Jamie Harper – 1500m – 4 mins 25 secs
Dylan Kaposi – Pole Vault – 2.90 m
James Davis – High Jump – 1.61 m
Ade Tokuta – Long Jump – 5.50 m
Alistair Afeeva – Triple Jump – 11.75 m
Dom Evans – Discus – 26.00 m
Animesh Misra – Shot – 10.85 m
Michael Miller – Javelin – 48.50 m

Finally, to cap a marvellous evening of athletics, the 4x100m Relay team stormed to a convincing win, with the quartet being: Ade Tokuta, Ben Zombory-Moldovan, Fayo Alabi and Dylan Kaposi. The best individual performance of the meeting came from the Under 16 Vice-Captain, Ade Tokuta, who won both his individual events, and was also the lead-leg in the winning 4x100m relay team, making Ade the winner of the first ‘Athlete of the Meeting’ Medal of the 2015 season!

However, one of the most pleasing aspects of the meeting was the strength in depth displayed by the number of second places gained by Habs ‘B’ string athletes – This bodes well for the E.S.A.A. Cup in two weeks time.

The match was won with a maximum 70 points, which represents a fantastic start to the 2015 season, but the boys will all be training hard to improve throughout the season – the goals being to win the Herts League, The Watford and District and to qualify for the
National Final of the English Schools Cup!
