On Thursday 24 November, Dr Ramesh Pattni visited the Boys’ School to deliver a lecture to the Hindu Society entitled ‘The Bhagavad Gita: How Can it Help us as Students?’ Dr Pattni holds a PhD from the University of Oxford in the Psychology of Yoga, and lectures at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies in addition to his weekly seminars at the Chinmaya Mission UK. His talk addressed how the teachings of the Gita could be used to achieve happiness, especially in a world where we often focus too much on wealth and the external trappings of success. Among the methods Dr Pattni explained to achieve happiness were focusing on our actions rather than our end goals and setting ideals to work towards. He pointed out that we must appreciate that nothing is permanent; everything is constantly changing and we should never take the important relationships in our lives or our success for granted.

All the boys who attended found the talk deeply thought-provoking, and it has led them to develop a greater interest in the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. The Hindu Society would like to thank Dr Pattni for his talk, and for taking the time out of his very busy schedule to visit us and provide us with some invaluable teachings.
