Before we broke up for summer, the School’s Hindu Society held an assembly on ‘Sadguru’ – a spiritual teacher. As ever, those of all faiths, and no faiths, were welcome to attend the special assembly, which took place in the Aske Hall.

Miss Pindoria welcomed special guests, including Old Boys, families of the speakers and Cllr Ameet Jogia, as well as staff and a range of boys from across the School.

Rudra Sachdev, who was invited to speak from the Prep, and Ishaan Shah, from Year 9, spoke in turn about Morari Bapu. They spoke eloquently of Bapu’s life and the pearls of wisdom he offers, including his universal message of Truth, Love and Compassion. They added that as well as gracing every major city and town in India, Bapu has held many of his recitals (known as kathas) across the world, including in Athens, Vatican City, Jerusalem, Tibet, in the Amazon Rainforest and the foothills of Mount Kailas.

Ishaan then added: “Along with reciting Ram Katha, Bapu has spent much time and energy into bringing communities, sects, castes and religions together. Bapu encourages all to be open-minded and open-hearted. His recitals are based on the Hindu epic, the Ramayan. However, Bapu speaks not only about Hindu scriptures, but also about Christianity. He recites Islamic poetry, delves into the life of the Buddha, and often quotes from Socrates, Plato and other great thinkers.”

Cllr Ameet Jogia then echoed that Truth, Love and Compassion are shared and common values which apply to all, especially in a Britain more divided than ever. He spoke openly about how spirituality and prayer have often helped him through busy, stressful and challenging times in his political work. Cllr Jogia took questions from the many attendees, who were interested in finding out more about Bapu and Cllr Jogia’s own experiences.

Miss Pindoria shared her views on the importance of a Sadguru and picked out examples of devotion from various religious texts.

Rudra warmly invited everyone to attend the upcoming London Katha, which takes place from Saturday 12 to Sunday 20 August 2017 at Wembley Arena with over 10,000 British and international listeners expected to attend. There is no fee to enter and lunch will be served daily to all those attending.
