The Habs Boys and Girls Schools recently joined together for the Junior School Disco to raise money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. The charity trains puppies to alert their deaf owner to sounds they would otherwise miss, such as the doorbell or an alarm clock. The dogs will also alert the recipient to danger signals, like a fire alarm. The hearing dogs become the companions of the owner, providing them with confidence and emotional support.
The evening saw students enjoying the disco and provided them with the opportunity to interact with some of the qualified hearing dogs that were kindly brought in by the charity’s volunteers. The disco raised £1,300 and the Junior School are now sponsoring a cocker spaniel puppy called Tyson. The money raised will go toward training Tyson, who will be learning from the age of eight weeks and working towards his three Puppy Stars!
The students received a framed photo of Tyson, along with a cuddly-toy Tyson, which will be kept safe in Mrs Bardou’s office.
Other details about Tyson are also in Mrs Bardou’s office for anyone who wishes to learn more about the Habs sponsored pup, who we are sure all the students are eager to meet some day!
