Having qualified through a first round and semi-final in the Lee Valley Cup 2016 athletics competition, the Habs Year 7 team of Jacob Haynes, Edan Gardiner, Ben Hocking, Sam Newman, Bryan Obar, Jonny Sawday and Sean Obiamiwe competed in the final on Wednesday 23 March.
Over 130 teams entered the competition which started in February and the team progressed to the final winning both their previous rounds. This is the first time Habs have entered the competition, so to make the final was very encouraging indeed.
Individual performances of the meet were from Jacob Haynes who won both the 60m and high jump, Edan Gardiner secured 2nd in the long jump, Bryan Obar was also 2nd in the 200m and Ben Hocking took 3rd in the shot.
The team consistently scored well secured the victory by 3 points, ahead of St Pauls and Westcliff High who tied for 2nd. The team are to be congratulated on winning at the first attempt and this certainly is encouraging for the 2016 outdoor season to come.
