The Inter House Debating finals were held earlier this term and we were excited to see such a fantastic display of debating prowess from out students. They demonstrated their wonderful ability to speak on two very different societal issues.
In the Middle School, in a final consisting of Joblings 1, Strouts 1, Russells 1 and Hendersons 1, the students were given the motion: THW prosecute the production and distribution of fake news, with Joblings 1 as Opening Government narrowly edging the victory.
In the Senior School, in a final consisting of Hendersons 1 and 2 and Meadows 1 and 2, the students were given the motion TH, as immigrants, would prioritise the preservation of their traditional culture over assimilating to the new culture, with Meadows 1 in Opening Opposition coming away with the win.
Our sincere thanks go to Akshay Kishan-Karia, a Haberdashers’ Old Boy and Debating Captain of 2011, who took time out of his busy schedule to be the competition’s senior judge, adjudicating alongside our current debating captains, Aarnav, Om and Jonny.
It was a fantastic event and a big congratulations go to all those involved.
