Students, staff and families from Habs Boys and Habs Girls gathered for our inaugural Celebration of Sport evening. This marked a significant milestone for Habs Sport, bringing together our whole school community to celebrate not only success on the scoreboard, but also the values, character and commitment that underpin every sporting journey.

Students were recognised for achievements at every level, including national titles and finals appearances, county honours and representation at regional, national and international level. Across a diverse range of sports, students demonstrated exceptional talent, ambition and dedication throughout the year.

However, the evening was designed to celebrate something even greater than results alone.
At Habs, sport is about helping every student flourish through movement, challenge and opportunity. Whether achieving representative honours, showing resilience as they return from injury, collaboration and commitment to a team, making personal progress, taking risks trying a new activity or simply finding a place where they feel they belong, every sporting journey matters.

This philosophy sits at the heart of Habs Sport through its commitment to developing Active People, Good People and Ambitious People. Success looks different for every student, and the Celebration of Sport provided an opportunity to recognise the many ways in which young people grow through sport.

One of the most powerful aspects of the evening was seeing students come together to celebrate one another’s achievements. The genuine pride shown by students for their peers reflected the strength of the sporting community being built across Habs Elstree, one founded on encouragement, belonging and shared success.

Opening the evening, attendees reflected on what often lies behind the moments that are publicly celebrated: the early mornings, the consistency, the discipline, the setbacks and the resilience required to keep moving forward. It was a reminder that sporting success is rarely defined by a single performance, but by the determination and perseverance shown over time.

Those themes were echoed perfectly by guest speaker Bianca Williams, Olympic Silver Medallist, whose inspiring reflections gave students a powerful insight into the realities of elite sport. Speaking candidly about the hard work behind every medal, overcoming setbacks, the importance of support networks and the determination required to keep improving, Bianca’s message resonated strongly with the audience. Her experiences reinforced an important lesson for students: resilience, courage and commitment are often the foundations upon which success is built.

While Bianca’s contribution was a highlight of the evening, this was ultimately a celebration of the students themselves. It was an opportunity to recognise not only what they have achieved, but also what they contribute to the culture of Habs Sport every day through their enthusiasm, teamwork, leadership and support for others.
The evening served as a reminder that sport has the power to develop qualities that extend far beyond the playing field, helping young people build confidence, resilience and lifelong habits that will serve them well in whatever path they choose.

A huge thank you goes to our staff and colleagues across who helped bring our first Celebration of Sport together, to our families for their continued encouragement and support, and to Bianca Williams for sharing her story.
As the evening came to a close, there was a strong sense that this was more than a celebration of a successful year. It was the beginning of what promises to become a valued tradition, one that recognises achievement, celebrates character and showcases the very best of our sporting community.
