Tamal Ray completed his study at The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School in 2004, graduated with a BA in Medicine from King’s College London and has since gone on to become an anaesthetist. Due to the exposure on the BBC series The Great British Bake Off, Tamal is now well-known across the country for his culinary skills.
While at Habs, Tamal lived locally with his parents, before moving to Manchester. During his time at the School, he achieved top grades, yet remained an extremely modest young man.
Interestingly, reports by teachers all cite Tamal’s ability in the sciences – although, he impressively excelled across the board! Tamal enjoyed music – playing piano and also being a dedicated member of the choir, where he was given the opportunity to perform at school concerts held at The Barbican, Royal Festival Hall and St Paul’s Cathedral. Alongside his musical talents, Tamal enjoyed art and playing sports, especially football.
While at Habs, Tamal noted that one of his greatest highlights was the school’s Mencap Funday. Tamal helped out with the running of the day and managed a face painting stall for children with learning disabilities.
In an interview with the BBC, and while at university, Tamal reflected: “I was fortunate enough to go to the best school in the area.”
Tamal was an exemplary and highly successful student throughout his time at the School. Everyone at Habs and the School community is immensely proud of what Tamal has achieved as he reached the very last episode of the competition. Congratulations to our Bake Off finalist!
