On Friday 4 November, Lord Daniel Finkelstein visited the School to speak to the Politics Society. Lord Finkelstein of Pinner has previously been an advisor and speechwriter for John Major, William Hague, David Cameron and George Osborne, and is a regular columnist for The Times, writing on both politics and football.

Lord Finkelstein spoke at lunch to a wide mix of both students and teachers from both the Boys’ and Girls’ Schools, on the ‘Rules of Politics’. He talked about his reasoning and ideas for how politics and elections work. This was followed by an enthusiastic Question and Answer session, with topics ranging from Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour Party, to George Osborne’s tax credits U-turn, and who will succeed David Cameron as Leader of the Conservative Party.

The speech was a fantastic opportunity for students and staff alike, and was a thoughtful insight into the world of politics. It was enjoyed by all those present, and the Politics Society would like to thank Lord Finkelstein for coming to speak to us.
