On Saturday 17 June James, Adam, Oliver (year 6), Lanre and George (year 5) swam in the Boys’ Mixed Stroke team and in the Boys’ Freestyle team representing the school and the East Division in the 23rd Primary Schools’ Team National Championships held by the English Schools’ Swimming Association at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.
The team qualified for both relays from the county round on March 3rd which was a feat in itself.
Perhaps it was when the teams had to stand to sing the National Anthem, parade and receive a medal and certificate BEFORE they had swum made them realise that the prize for all of those people attending was that they were competing in a National Final regardless of the outcome.
However, our boys did themselves proud twice! They were successful for both events in that they qualified for the ‘A’ finals twice and again in both events recorded personal best times either in the heats or final achieving the 7th fastest time in the country. Individually the boys are committed to their swimming and train very hard but thanks to their school coach they have practised as a team and were justly rewarded with great success. We would like to thank the parents for their support, commitment and time given to the team, especially for spending a very hot Saturday travelling a long way to spend a long day on poolside.
