On Tuesday 7th July 2015, historical fiction author Paul Dowswell visited The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School to talk to Year 7 and 8 pupils.
Mr Dowswell spoke to the boys in the Bourne Hall about inspirations for his work, both fiction and non-fiction, in particular how works of art, posters and paintings influence him. Following this, he held an interactive creative writing workshop in the library for a group of Year 7s, who listened intently and were taught to ‘show, not tell’ when writing fictional pieces. Mr Dowswell then offered advice on what it takes to become a published writer.
The School would like to thank Mr Dowswell for giving up his time to speak to the boys, who greatly benefited from his talks throughout the day.
