The Habs PE Department recently continued their ‘return to play’ approach by introducing their new Saturday Sport Franchise. In the absence of inter-school sport, PE staff arranged internal games to be played as a part of a franchise series. The first of this series saw just over 100 boys from Years 7 to 9 turn up to play touch rugby in some beautiful conditions.

The competition is open to all boys, regardless of previous experience, with teams selected via a NFL (National Football League) or IPL (Indian Premier League) style draft in order to ensure parity. The boys were then assigned franchise names and colours normally seen in the Super Rugby Championship.

Director of Sport, Mr McIntosh said: “There were some very exciting games, which involved all boys who wished to take part. The sessions are intended to offer boys the chance to get to know others beyond their tutor groups and it was great to see the boys really getting on and helping each other throughout the day.”

Individual prizes were given for MVPs (Most Valuable Players) and Coaches Player, along with a Team of the Week for each age group.

The School looks forward to welcoming students back to Saturday Sport Franchise in the following weeks, where the PE Department will be introducing different sports to appeal to all.
