The Economics Society was delighted to host Stephen Gibson, former Chief Economist at Ofwat and Postcomm. Stephen is a member of the Regulatory Policy Committee, which scrutinises and quality assesses all Government Impact Assessments. He also lectures at Birkbeck College.

Stephen gave a fascinating talk on the regulation of the advertising of junk food, based on his work as Principal Economist at Ofcom. It was enlightening to see how economic theory is applied in practice to weigh up possible policy remedies for a market failure.

The audience listened attentively and asked highly pertinent questions throughout an excellent presentation.
