Rehearsals for this year’s Shakespeare School’s Festival are well underway and the company (17 Y7/8 and 9 boys and 4 Y9 girls) are thoroughly enjoying putting their own twist on Richard III.
They were recently were given the opportunity to travel to ArtsDepot in Finchley – where the performance will be – and work with a director to help develop some of the scenes they have been working on. The company really enjoyed working in a different space and seemed to really engage with all the exciting rehearsal exercises. They worked hard on creating a powerful and energetic opening to the play, in which the war between the houses of York and Lancaster is re-enacted, along with the victory celebration when the House of York wins! The boys and girls are really starting to throw themselves into the historical context and it is clear how much they enjoy uncovering the meaning behind the text and exploring different ways of conveying it clearly and engagingly to an audience.
You can support our boys by coming to see them:
Below are some photos of the boys and girls enjoying the workshop and getting really stuck into some of the work.
