Thirty-seven boys, five staff and four Friends of Croxley Common Moor (Ian Ward, Fabian Hiscock, Kay Fitzgerald and John Wootton) descended on the Moor in the glorious sunshine for Field Day. The sun shone, the Green Woodpeckers “yaffled” and the lads fell to the task for 5 straight hours, pausing for 5 minutes on the hour to take on water and fuel!
By 3pm, according to Fabian Hiscock, the cadets had cleared in a single day what would have taken an entire season for the volunteers, who meet once Sunday a month over a seven month period, outside the bird-nesting season.
Croxley Common Moor is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is home to unique flora and fauna found nowhere else in Hertfordshire.
Sincere thanks to Mr Hails and Mr Kerry who accompanied us on our Field Day, despite not being members of the Navy section. Thanks too to our usual stalwarts, Mr Gauntlett and Mr Ward.
Particular thanks to the cadets who did us proud throughout the entire day! A fabulous effort!
