Following the very successful U16 athletics team’s 2015 season, the ESAA Track and Field Cup runners up trophy was formally presented to the Team Captain, Michael Miller and Vice-Captain, Ade Tokuta in a recent Middle school assembly. The trophy was not available at the end of the summer, so the team’s achievement was formally recognised at the earliest opportunity in the Autumn term.
Three of the team went on to represent Hertfordshire in the National championships the following weekend, Louis Flinn, Jamie Harper and Ollie Hocking. Several of the team are club athletes who continued to compete during the summer break, Adam Shiret running under 2.00 mins for the 800m on two occasions, Jamie Harper improving on his 1500m time down to 4m12s, Henry Rocha bringing his 800m time down to 2m07s and Michael Miller throwing the javelin and helping Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers achieve the runners up spot in the national final of the Youth Development league in Birmingham.
Encouragingly several of the athletes in this year’s U16 team are eligible to compete for the same team again next year when they will be again setting their sights on achieving at the highest level in the National competition.
