‘The main message this Christmas is that it’s our relationships with each other which determine whether we have a happy or fruitful life.’

Our annual Choir Service took place on Monday 10 December in St Albans Cathedral.
One of the most important events in the School calendar, the service offers the School the opportunity to come together as a community, building the values of friendship and strengthening relationships.
Featuring the school choir, who sang The Lamb, Adam Lay Ybounden and The Wolf (written for our school charity), the service also included speeches from Mr. Lock, Mr. Rossetti, Mr. Weinman, Revd. Brandon, Mrs. Margot Chaundler (OBE) and several of our boys throughout the School.
Toluwani had the opportunity to participate in the service this year, holding the Cross and leading the procession through to the altar of the Abbey:
Of the afternoon, he says ‘I love how lots of people got to talk. But I think the Chaplain’s message was a key one. He was talking about the Autumn term – and the importance of reflection on it.’
The Chaplain – Reverend Brandon – emphasised not only the theme of reflection, but also the importance of community in the nativity story:
‘We’re people who live among groups: the individual comes second. That runs right the way through the Christmas story, because it’s the story of a family. As is the case in all the world’s great religions, it’s the family that help us become the people we are. This continues into school life’
On the theme of family, the Reverend widened his message to include the whole school community. In particular, he emphasised our unity through difference:
‘Because we’re outside of school for this event, this increases our awareness that we are one community. We’re somewhere else, somewhere different, all joined together. We recognise we’re made by the relationships we have with each other.’
