The Year 4 rugby boys made history by qualifying for the national schools rugby tournament. The team, led by Mr Thomas and Mr McIntosh, went to Epsom College filled with hope and excitement but also a little bit nervous. They should not have worried!  A great team effort saw them win all of their matches by a comfortable margin. They even managed to get the most points (55) of any team at the competition. The boys go back to Epsom to battle it out on Sunday 19th March. It is the first time a Habs team has qualified for the nationals. It was a great day!

On a misty, cold morning, we set off to Epsom College, feeling confident and excited about the regional rugby tournament. The grounds were perfectly mowed and the pitches superbly drawn out. The team met and got into their starting positions. We began to encourage each other as we knew we were going to play some good rugby sides. Habs took their opportunities and got the lead within minutes. Match after match we came off the pitch knowing and feeling that we had done our best. We were overjoyed because we had got through to the next round with 55 points. I’m really looking forward to the next tournament.

It was a really cold morning at Epsom College on Sunday 5th February 2017 for the regional Prep School rugby qualifiers. We arrived full of pride since we had had got into such a high level rugby tournament for only the second time. As we began to warm up, excitement was brewing in the air. We watched the first match, full of curiosity of the way they played and how they attacked and defended. Next came our match with Cumnor House where Ore ran through their line and scored 3 tries. When we came off, everyone was delighted with the score, including Mr Thomas and Mr McIntosh. Soon we were on the pitch again and were over the moon with the feeling of victory. After 2 more wins, we were celebrating our triumph of making it through to the national finals and everyone was full of pride and excitement. It was a magnificent day!

My teammates and I went to the regional rugby tournament at Epsom College last Sunday, knowing that we needed to finish in the top 2 of the group in order to make it through to the next round. We warmed up and felt prepared for the day ahead. It proved useful as we went on to win all 4 of our games and finish top of our group, accumulating 55 points at an average of 13.75 points per game. We pleased some great rugby and everyone in the team scored a try. We were really proud as we are the first ever Habs team to make it this far in the tournament. It was really fun and we had some amazing support from our and other boys’ parents.

Thank you to the 4 Prep School boys for contributing to this article.
