“On Friday 28 June, 14 boys from Year 6 set off on a journey to test our climbing skills in the Peak District, accompanied by Miss Caplan, Mr Emery and Mr Thomas. After a long journey, we finally arrived at Hagg Farm, the accommodation for the weekend. Although we were tired, we found the energy to make our beds and help with dinner. Whilst feasting on delicious pasta and apple crumble, everyone laughed and joked together, talking about our scariest moments.

After a good night’s rest, we were awake at 7:30am to have breakfast and prepare for the day. We then set off for Stanage Edge where we carried bags full of climbing equipment up the steep slope. From a distance the cliff face looked relatively small, however, as we got closer it began to loom over us! We spent the day scaling several challenging climbs across different parts of the cliff, as well as top roping, bouldering and belaying. Despite the tough physicality of the challenge, and the heat of the day, everyone worked hard and supported each other well.

On the way back to Hagg Farm, we stopped off for a well-deserved ice cream followed by a massive water fight to help us cool off! We ate pizza and had Mars bar sponge cake for dinner which tasted amazing after all our exertions. The day ended with a campfire, reflecting on the climbing experience and telling spooky stories.

Overall the trip was fantastic, one of my favourites and a great way to end my time in the Prep School. As well as improving our climbing techniques, it taught us about overcoming challenges and persevering during hard times.

All the boys are grateful to the teachers for giving up their weekend to make this experience so enjoyable.”
