“It’s been a spectacular journey.” (Jai)
It’s mid-morning and Jai is describing an image on the board to his partner in class. His partner is doing his best to draw the image from Jai’s description, without being able to see it.
“So for example I say there is a moat and he has to draw it.”
Alongside them sit seven other pairs working on the same activity. Mr Todhunter, their teacher of art, set the boys a sketching task. Jai comments: “It’s a fun sketching game that allows us to learn.”
Across the School, similar stories of inspiration and excellence are being told, as we welcome our new Year 7 into the School community. There is certainly no shortage of fun to be had and friendships to be made.
Aryan has certainly made the most of it. When asked about his first impressions of the School, he smiles, saying: “I think it’s been really friendly. On the first day, everyone was so welcoming, from the Prep boys to the boys from the other schools. The teachers have been really nice and have let us settle in. They’re really focusing on getting our skills up to the same level.”
Aryan has his eyes set on the cricket trials which take place at the end of the week. His friend Kalum, who we caught up with the guitar ensemble, is more focused on rugby. However, what he really wants to discuss is maths!
“We do these time trials and it’s amazing. We start off on an easy topic, like basic addition and subtraction. It’s about who can do the most in five minutes. The trial is really fun.”
Whether sketching castles, entering cricket trials or competing in maths challenges, what everyone has expressed is the sheer amount of fun they’ve had in their first days at Habs.
We wish our Year 7 the very best for the rest of the School year!
