On Thursday 27 June, Year 9 historians visited RAF Hendon, RAF Duxford, HMS Belfast and the National Army Museum. The trips were arranged to enrich the Year 9 history curriculum which focuses on the Twentieth Century.
The boys who visited RAF Museum in Hendon took part in a Changing Technology and Warfare workshop with a focus on the development of weaponry over the twentieth century. They handled artefacts including a Second World War compass and a pair of Cold War era pilot trousers, designed to limit the effects on G-Force.
Those who visited Duxford Air Museum created a documentary about the Second World War, including the Battle of Britain and Home Front. They even saw a Spitfire take off.
The boys who visited HMS Belfast spent time exploring the most significant surviving Second World War Royal Navy warship before enjoying lunch on deck in the glorious sunshine.
The visitors to the National Army Museum enjoyed the chance to visit five different galleries as well as taking part in a workshop about Total War.
The boys were excellent and enjoyed the chance to visit places of great historic interest. Thank you to all of the staff who gave up their time to make the different trips such a success.
