On Thursday 3 March, the cadets and officers of Habs CCF Army Section, aided by Sqn Ldr Pearson, Cpl Maj Sandercock, Mr Letts, and Mr Simm of the History department, deployed on RAF Barnham Training Area for a fantastic Field Training Exercise.

Preparations began before half term, with RSM Stefano Cappelli and his team of SNCO’s producing orders for the Lower Sixth to plan a fantastic set of activities for the younger cadets. At the same time the Year 10 cadre were practicing their skill at Arms lessons, preparatory to their first blank firing exercise.

The Year 11 cadre, ably commanded by Lower Sixth Cpls Rohan Jagpal and Sai Thokala, moved into known enemy territory, and executed a tactical harbour occupation in a well-chosen wooded copse, while the Year 10, under their Lower Sixth section commanders, enjoyed a more relaxed first experience of a night under a basha.

The morning dawned clear and cold, and training began. The Year 10 cadets undertook a rotation of navigation, obstacle drills, stalking and other activities.

The Year 11 performed a casualty handling exercise, an orienteering course, and so on.

This was a truly fantastic experience, and a credit to the hard work of all the cadets. Thanks to all involved: U. Off McEwan-Cox, 2Lt Akhtar, Lt, Geering, Lt. McLarin, Mr Letts, Mr A P A Simm, Sqn. Ldr. Pearson, Cpl. Maj. Sandercock, and the SNCO Dream Team. A special mention goes to the co-curricular team of Mr Simm and Ms Adams for their stalwart support.
